The children within the preschool unit start to concentrate on developing pencil control which leads to developing writing skills. We will extend the children’s knowledge through table top activities by using props, which will help the children to link sounds to letters, which will the develop the skill of name recognition and letter formation. We encourage physical activity that allows the children to experience playing with equipment required to use their gross motor skills and to develop their skill of coordination and negotiation. During circle time and play the children are using and developing their numeracy skills by counting objects, matching cards and singing. The children will use their learnt skills to explore media with confidence and to use their language skills to explain what they are doing and creating. The children are able to work in small groups and on large scales creating images. We encourage the children to extend their imaginations through role play, where the children can use their first hand experiences with others. All of our activities are developed and carried out to help the children learn and achieve to the best of their ability and can be adapted to meet each child’s individual need.
